Maxi Dress

Perhaps you've noticed one of the latest trends?

The maxi dress.*

It came out last year, and I thought they were great & wanted to make one.  But I wasn't sure they would last, and I didn't want to put the time into making something I was only going to get to wear a few times.

So, I waited, and they came back this year.  So, I went ahead and made one.

I combined two different dress patterns to make my dress, and raised the neckline.  Really, making your own dresses pays off, since you can adjust them to fit your preferences, and you don't have to end up wearing additional layers if the style is lower than you're comfortable with.  And since I live in Indy, which is hot and humid right now, the less layers the better.  Also, if you are tall like me, you can't find dresses that hit you just below the knee--they are always too short.  So, I make a lot of my own dresses.

  1. Sometimes I think I should start wearing dresses, I haven't worn a dress in YEARS (except when pregnant.) But you look great, and I think sometimes they must be so much more comfortable...

Maybe I should try to make myself one?

  2. Cute!! I love wearing dresses and not having something else cutting into my waist. I agree though that it is hard to find them that fit and are modest. I hate wearing extra layers. Maybe I should try making one. You are a way better seamstress than I am, but I guess you probably had to start somewhere, too.
