Patting babies to sleep

Emily loves dolls and stuffed animals.  And she loves to find blankets for them around the house (usually hand towels) and cover up her dolls and then pat them.  Or pick them up and hold them and sing to them--just like her Daddy does when he puts her to sleep.  (Not that I don't, too, but Dan does it a lot more often).

She also likes to pat me to sleep.  About a week ago she brought over a towel and put it on me while I was lying on the couch, and patted me a bunch.  She even went and found another blanket--this time a diaper changing mat and tried to cover my face with it and pat that.

Last night Dan decided she could hang out with us after her diaper was changed and before she went to bed.  I had to go wash my hands from helping with the diaper, and when I got back, she had pulled my sheet up over her legs, and was lounging on my pillow, happy as a clam.  We scooted her over a little and I climbed in, curled around her.  Then Emily tried to cover me with the sheet and pat me.

Emily is not a light patter.  She's got some oomph.  And at times she was distracted by the various places she could stick her finger (like my ear canal) and pulling at my earrings and hair.  Eventually, I flipped on my back.  And I pulled the sheet all the way over me.  I thought she'd hate that, since she usually wants to do things herself.  But she was really happy, and patted my back until Dan took her to bed.

  1. Ah, too cute! Sounds like her little mothering instincts are coming out. I wish I could see her. Do you guys have skype?

  2. Cute! Jill likes to wrap her dolls in blankets, too. She doesn't pat or sing to them though. Haha. I love that Emily pats with "oomph." :)
