So, the title of my last post was also a reference to the blog MADE, which is a fun craft blog I like to read. Because the bottom sheet I made for Emily was based on her tutorial for crib and toddler bed sheets. I tweaked it a little--instead of having the elastic go all the way around the bottom edge, it is only in the corners. Dan expressed his great dislike of sheets that have elastic all the way around, and I concurred. So I only sewed elastic into the corners. Also, it only used half the elastic, and really, I'm all about not having to buy more sewing supplies as soon. Now I still have enough for another bottom sheet.
Both the top and bottom sheets used the entire width of the material, so I just had to cut the length (and also cut out corners for the bottom sheet, so it would be fitted).
For the top sheet, I cut the material about 60" long (the length her toddler quilt will be, and the length of "crib size" batting). Then I cut another 7", ironed it in half, and ironed a 1/2 hem on both sides. I sewed some bias tape along one side, so that it peeked past the edge of the hem. I sewed the smaller piece at the top of the sheet to give it a "top of the sheet" sort of look and hemmed the bottom, and it was all done.
The bottom sheet wasn't hard either. I got the top sheet done before work and the bottom sheet done after, and then still had time to change Emily's crib into a toddler bed (okay, so that was pushing it). What kept me up most the night was Emily upset about going to bed, and now having the option to get out instead of just going to sleep.
One of her new favorite games is making Mommy lie down in her bed and then putting the sheet over me and patting me.
:)
ReplyDeleteAwww I think that's sweet that she likes to put you to bed. And, again, you're amazing. Please continue posting about all of your sewing crafts, because I really enjoy reading about them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know it can be hard to tell without seeing my facial expression, but I am honestly not being sarcastic. I really, really, really love reading about them. And then I brag about how talented you are. Not to Jeff though. Haha. I don't want him to compare us, because I would not look good in the sewing department. ;) My brother is a lucky man!!
