Why I blog

So, I've been thinking about blogging lately.  The fact that I haven't, and felt like I needed to post something, and also WHY I blog.  I usually post about our family, or my crafting.  And, I think that's fine.  In fact, most of the blogs I read are about crafts, with some family life thrown in.  I got up this morning, planning on starting a few blog posts that could be scheduled for the next couple weeks, once I got some pictures.

Then my brother-in-law posted an article on facebook: Why I can't stop reading Morman housewife blogs.

So, I don't think I will ever be one of those bloggers that gets followed by thousands (or even hundreds) or people.  I'm not going to be making lots of money off my blog, or get invited to guest star on Martha, probably not even if I started up an etsy site (which I've been encouraged to do by several people).  I might make some money from selling things, but I don't blog enough to gain a faithful following of avid readers, even if I did somehow get noticed by the general public.

My blog is more about chronicling our lives and my craft projects.  Some place, that in 20 years, I can look back and say, oh yeah, I spent 2 months working on that project, and it turned out so cute.  Where I can share news and pictures of our family.  Because, I don't know if I will ever find the time and funds to really scrapbook again.

Also, I find craft blogs very inspiring.  Most of my projects I undertake are because I read about a project someone else did.  Or sometimes, I'll have an idea of something to do, and then someone else posts about something similar.  And it's nice to craft vicariously through others when I don't have the time or energy to do so, when I'm working outside the home.  So, my craft blog is a way of giving back to the general artistic community.  Even if the only people who read it are my family and friends.

  1. I thought that article was really interesting too. I also doubt I will ever be one of those bloggers, but I will continue to write my own little blog because I enjoy it so much, and maybe a few other people do too, and that's nice.

Also speaking of your crafts, I want to see a picture of Emily's little kitchen! Especially if you can get a shot of her in the oven. :)

I had fun talking to her on her birthday.

  2. Sorry, just me again, but did my dad remember to tell you how many compliments Hallie and Hanna got at their birthday party in those tutus you made them? They were a big hit. Thanks!

But of course, I forgot to take pictures. I totally meant to. Grr.
