For awhile, Emily's favorite TV show was Boo!, a British children's show (and by TV show, I mean show on Hulu, our main way of watching TV). In each show, the star of the show, Boo, hides in a different locations, and the audience is supposed to help find him. Child narrators help the audience navigate on the adventure, commenting on what they see. The children identify animals, with a adjective and a noun (like creeping tiger), and they play games and sing songs after they find Boo. It's a great, educational show.
Emily learned important words from Boo!, like "run away", which the kids on the show say every time they find a reoccurring character, Growling Tiger. Another character is Laughing Duck, and Emily now loves ducks. And then there is Sleeping Bear, who is always taking a nap somewhere comfy in each episode; I told Emily that one of our Christmas ornaments, a felt teddy bear, was sleeping bear. That ornament turned up all over our home.
Emily used to ask for Boo! all the time. Dan figured out he had seen about 300 episodes, and there were only 24 episodes, so he'd seen most of them many, many, many times. Then Dan figured out that boo was her name for TV, and what she really wanted was to watch TV. Luckily, she doesn't really care WHAT she wants, as long as we put on something.
Emily's other new favorite show is Hello, Kitty. We got a couple Hello, Kitty, DVD's at Target. They take common fairy tales, and change them a little to fit the characters on the show. It is sweet and wholesome. For instance, Goldilocks is no longer spoiled; instead she is hungry because the bears stole her food, and she replaces the food she eats at the end.
Emily has started calling DVD's kitty. Her new love of DVD's has inspired me to find all of our kid shows on DVD.
That's cute that TV is "boo" and DVDs are "Kitty." I love it when I figure out Jill's words for things that really have other names. She calls our cat Cosmo "paw." That one took me weeks to figure out. Ha.
