Shirt Dress

Many months ago, maybe over a year now, I was reading a friends blog, and she mentioned a shirt dress she had made, from the blog Presser Foot.  I went and checked out the other blog, and stumbled onto the craft blog community.  Eventually, I also found Made, one of my favorite craft blogs, who actually did the tutorial on Presser Foot about the shirt dress.

You can find the tutorial on Made here.  If you go down near the bottom, there is a version of that shirt dress that I really liked.

And I sort of copied it for Emily.

The sleeves in that original dress are made from the ends of the original sleeves, instead of making all new sleeves.  I did the same for Emily.  I did use my own dress pattern (the one I created for the blush dress, only with a couple more inches added at the bottom for length).

For this dress I finished all the seams so that they wouldn't fray inside:

And added curved patch pockets to the front:

The dress turned out pretty much perfect.

Perfect for reading on the iphone

Eating cookies by the fireplace

Or just sitting with Mommy.

And, of course, riding the pony at Kroger.

  4. I love the dress. It amazes me how you can see something and then turn it into something else.
