Recently I was at JoAnn's, and found some cute fabric in the remnant section. Does anyone else love to hunt through the remnant baskets? I don't always buy any, but there are usually a few things I consider. That day I found a couple remnants that I thought would make cute summer skirts for Emily.
The pink fabric I used to make a simple gathered skirt. The waistband is 1.5 times her waist, and the skirt is 2 times her waist. I used elastic in the waistband to hold it up. Good tip--don't make the elastic too tight (like I did at first) and then force it onto your unsuspecting child. She will refuse to wear the skirt for the rest of the day, even after you fix it.
The yellow and green fabric I used to make a market skirt, from Made. Made is one of the blogs I read regularly, and I saw the market skirt there awhile ago and have been planning to make one for Emily. I made mine a little longer, and I didn't review the pocket tutorial before I made my pockets. Which, maybe I should have done. And, the elastic was too loose at first, which she did not mind, but I did.
Both skirts turned out to be great for playing in:
Emily is so cute
ReplyDeleteWhat great skirt! I can never say this enough times: Emily and Tabitha are so lucky to have such a crafty mother who can make them fun, cute, functional clothes.
