Emily's 4th Birthday

Today Emily turns four.  She an imaginative, spunky little girl.  She loves to play with her princess dolls, wear a tutu, and also pretend to be a ninja* and make most things a race, in which she triumphs as winner.  Some of Emily's favorite things include:

1. Her brother.  And talking for her brother (in a high squeaky voice).

2. Carrots.  She loves to eat them raw.  But not baby carrots, she loves real carrots.  We are having carrot cake today for her birthday.

3. Spaghetti, especially with meatballs.  If I make meatballs without spaghetti, I have done it wrong.

4. Going to movies.  We took her to the movies a couple months ago, after not having taken her in some time.  She didn't want to leave.  The theater had free movies for kids on Saturdays around then as well, so she got to see lots of movies.  A year ago, I don't think going to the movies made an impression.  Now she loves seeing things "on the big TV."

5. Singing.  Especially in front of others.  She tries to learn lyrics to some songs, but she also makes up songs.  Ask her to sing the Rapunzel song.  She sings about the plot.

6. Dancing.  She gets up at the end of movies and dances to the credit music.

7. Watching  Tangled, the Disney movie about Rapunzel.

8. Watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.  There are only two seasons on Netflix.  We have watched them both a couple times.

9. Watching Backyardigans.   If you haven't seen this show with singing animal friends who play pretend in their adjoined backyards, you should.  It is very cute, and they usually sing and dance to classical music pieces.  My favorite is the pink girl lizard who is very much a tomboy.  Emily has named a doll after the girl hippo, Tasha, who is very girly, and who is also usually in charge, or queen.

10. Her family.  She loves going upstairs to spend time with GranB, calling Aunt Jeanie on the phone, and recently she told me, very solemnly, that she needed to go to Nana's house.

* We watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (my first time seeing the live action turtles, I saw the cartoon all the time as a kid).  Emily was enthralled.  Then she jumped around on her bed pretending to be a ninja, and declared she was going to kick turtle butt.  Apparently, she empathized with the villains.

  1. Emily looks so grown up in that Frankenmuth picture!! It sounds like you had a fun day there.

That is so funny that she wants to kick turtle butt. :)

Jill LOVES My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, also! iTunes has a lot of seasons, but I've only purchased four episodes. So far, Jill has been willing to watch them over and over.

I hope that Emily has a fantastic birthday and a great party on Saturday!!

  2. On her fourth birthday Emily and I spent some time together in the evening. It is the first time that I remember babysitting for Emily in at least a year. We made the beds in two guest rooms in case someone comes to visit :), Emily raced to the bathroom twice and made it both times! we got Emily into her pj's which involved some tickling and read four stories together. When her Mom came home Emily announced that Pappy was never to be her babysitter again, which may be due to the fact that I had her in bed.
