Emily's Tutu

So, long time ago, when I was in high school, I made myself a tutu for a Halloween costume. Since then I'd taken it apart, but saved some of the fabric to make into a tutu for a little girl. You know, if I ever had one, which I hoped I would, even when I still hadn't even met Dan yet, and wasn't dating anyone, but it was something to hope for.

I figured I should wait to make Emily a tutu until she would be old enough to want one. Newborns are not really know for their love of fashion. So, I restrained myself, until she would be old enough for a tutu.

Last Friday, that day came. Emily and I were shopping (Dan had just gotten paid, was away for the evening, and I had a car. Need I say more?). We were at T J Maxx, so at least we were shopping responsibly (i.e. in a place where it would be harder to spend lots of money). I was hanging out in the little girl area, looking at stuff, and there were these tutus, right at stroller reaching level for little girls who are in strollers and have recently become sort of grabby. Emily reached out, and gently felt a multi-colored tutu between her fingers. Like it was the most awesome, amazing thing she had ever seen, and perhaps someday, if she was lucky, she might have something so nice.

I started making her tutu that night. I even tried to finish it that night, but it is probably I finally listened to my tired, and a little hungry, daughter's cries, and stopped. I finished it around noon the next day, after having gotten up before everyone else to work on it. So it took awhile, but Emily seems to like it.As a bonus, here is Emily doing all the cute new things she does now--waving her hand, shaking her head, scooting:
