It's a BOY!

My 18 week ultrasound was this past Tuesday, and we found out the gender.  We are going to be having a boy!  I've already started buying clothes, and I have some sewing projects planned.

Daniel, Emily, and I all went to the ultrasound appointment.  We brought some toys, coloring stuff, and the ipad to distract Emily.  We spent about half an hour in the waiting room, during which I grumbled periodically about the torture of having wait with a full bladder.  They had a kids show on at eye level for Emily, so she was mostly sucked into that, and Dan got on the ipad.  (For some reason, when we go somewhere we will have to wait, even all of us together, Dan always thinks he needs a distraction; he will even ask me if I want to bring one; I have come to accept this, and he does help with Emily.)  When it was time to go the the ultrasound room, I gathered up Emily and her discarded toys, and Dan followed.

I got settled on the table and the technician started getting ready for the ultrasound.  Emily got very concerned.  Dan scooted her chair next to me, and she held my hand and told me that I would be okay.  We tried to tell her I was fine, that they were going to take pictures of the baby in my tummy, but she knew better.

And then she could see the baby on the monitor, and she got excited.  I'd tried to tell her we were going to have another baby, but I don't think she was really convinced, until the ultrasound.  She paid attention to the monitor for a couple minutes, and then Dan gave her the coloring stuff.  She made pictures while the ultrasound continued on; for those who haven't had one, or haven't had one in some time, they spend a bunch of time measuring the baby and taking lots of different pictures, and about a minute telling you what you are having.  Dan usually descends into boredom, followed by an assortment of random, often weird comments (which he usually justifies by his boredom if confronted about them later).  This time he spent most of the ultrasound watching Emily or reading on the ipad.

Although, I was grateful he wasn't making comments the whole way through the ultrasound about how it was impossible to tell where the baby was, and he thought it was something weird instead.  At least, he didn't make many comments, and he saved them for the end.  The technician printed out some ultrasound pictures for me, along with one for Emily, and one for Daniel (his is related to his interesting comments; it's either of the baby's skeleton, or of the baby as ghost.)
