So We Bought A House

A week ago Dan and I went into the real estate office and signed papers for our house.  We put our offer in at the beginning of February, so it felt like FOREVER until we actually signed.  I was stressed because I was worried something would fall thorough, and we'd have to look for another house.  This house was the third one we put offers on, and we actively looked for about a month.  Half of which time we were waiting to hear if we had gotten a different house, so maybe we only really looked for a few weeks.  BUT, there weren't many houses in our price range.  And, according to my father-in-law, who heard it on the radio, people in Michigan were snatching up houses.  And while the house needs lots of work, there is nothing so wrong with it that we can't move in.

When we first went to see our current house, it was evening, after it got dark.  It was cold, the kids and my in-laws were with us, and we put an offer in right away.  So, there have been some surprises.  Like the state of the fridge, which I didn't look inside until much later.  We turned it on a couple days ago, and unless some miracle saves it, we probably need a new fridge.

The house certainly has lots of character.  It's had a couple additions over the years.  And it's got a brand new, very big garage, that takes up a third of my backyard.  But it has lots of space for storage, and its wired separately from the house, and it looks like Dan could have a really great workshop out there.

We need to get some gutters on it, and paint it.  We've started painting the interior, and the exterior will get done when it gets warmer.  Here is a tour of the house from the inside (these are before pictures, I'll post more pictures when it is done).

This is the living room.  You enter into it.

This is the end of the living room, with the hall coming off it.  The craft room is the first room, on the left, then the bathroom is across the hall (you can't see the door to it), and then the kids room is at the end of the hall, next to the kitchen.

This is the first, and smallest bedroom.  It is going to be my craft room.

This is the bathroom.  It is cozy, but still bigger than the bathroom at the house we rented in Indy.

This is the kids room.  It is kind of long and narrow, with one window, to the left of the picture.  Like the craft room, it has a big closet.

This picture is from the kitchen, looking into the dining room.  You can see one of the lovely sponge painted cabinets at the bottom right of the picture.  The master bedroom is through the doorway in the picture.

Here is the back hall, which was to the left of the above picture.  It takes you out to a boardwalk, which goes along one side of the back yard to the garage.

Here is the master bedroom, which is off the dining room.  It is a newer addition to the house.

The master has two closets in it.

These are the stairs to the basement.  They are at the front of the house.

This is in the first room in the basement, which we think was a bedroom.  The walls are ripped out up to about 4 feet high, we think there was flooding.

This is the room right behind the "bedroom" in the basement.  It is unfinished.  The laundry room and furnace rooms are both off this room.
So, there you go.  One thing I learned yesterday, was that you can see the nearby lake from my house.  At least, you can right now, with no leaves on the trees.  We will have to see if we still can see the lake during the summer.

  2. I love your house and enjoy when I am able to help work on some project that needs doing.

I am also tickled pink that it comes with a neighborhood beach. We are going to have to have a picnic there this summer :)
